Jimmy took over the shop after his father retired. He knew his girls would not do the same.

 

This piece is part of a long running documentary series about family run businesses in Brooklyn. Great Western Fine Foods was a major part of the 5th Ave community for over 50 years. Jimmy was a friend, resource, and thereapist to countless “old timers” in Park Slope. Most days he was the only face behind the counter. His knives were sharpened down to impeccably thin fangs because he had been cutting close to the bone for his whole adult life.
